JET (TOMSS Project)

JET stands for 'Jobs, Education, Training'. A non-profit charity which supports newly arrived female migrants who want to develop upon some skills and help them with integrating into a new society. They help women from all cultural backgrounds and age groups, in order to help them find work, integrate and improve themselves as a member of a new community.

The TOMSS Project is organised by the JET foundation and stands for ' Tyneside Orientation And Migrant Support Service' (TOMSS). They are currently collaborating with Crisis Skylight and Newcastle City Learning since its creation in September 2012. The project features a range of training courses and miscellaneous activities to aid in the integrating process.

The project has attracted above 130 women and is been funded through the European Integration Fund and Newcastle Fund.

During the period of 28th April and 9th May, Breaking Barriers explored, learnt and interviewed those who worked on and who took part in the TOMSS project. It was a great success and the people we met were truly inspiring.

Below is an introduction to what JET does with the TOMSS project.
