Yangxiameng Lu
Hi I'm Yangxiameng
Born in Xi’an, China, Brenda has a unique Chinese name with four characters -- Yangxiameng Lu.
She completed her undergraduate degree in English translation at Xi’an International Foreign
Studies University, however Brenda has chosen to change her major to Journalism and is studying it
in United Kingdom because of her interest and passion in the media industry and its language
advantage.
She is currently a Master's student at Newcastle University studying International Multimedia
Journalism. When talking about the ideal occupation in the future, Brenda says:
“I’d like to be a journalist. Being a journalist has enabled me not only change my life but the lives of others; seeing, feeling and experiencing what other people go through in their everyday lives. I
feel proud what I am doing now, communicating with people from all walks of life and sharing
their stories with the rest of the world.”
During the project, Brenda mainly specialised in the filming and editing areas. Furthermore,
Brenda also carried out some interviews and wrote articles about the main subject. Throughout the project, Brenda developed her skills in interviewing and website design, as well as her
organizing abilities.
The importance of this project: This group work has enhanced my basic skills which media
workers should equip themselves with. For example, I’ve learnt how to communicate with
interviewees in a professional way. I strongly realize the importance of teamwork during the
process. A successful teamwork mainly based on mutual trust and accountability means a lot
to a group. At the same time, this special experience gives me the chance to learn more about the
inspiring stories of women immigrants in Newcastle.
Favourite inspirational woman: Oprah Winfrey (Winfrey’s role model status not only in her
professional career as a media proprietor, talk show host, producer, but also her inspiring
philanthropic work (The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls).
Favourite movie director: Tim Burton ( “Big Fish”my most favourite movie)
Favourite quote: “I used to think that the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It’s not. The
worst thing in life is ending up with people who make you feel all alone.” (Robin Williams)
