 Priscillia Charles

Hi, I'm Priscillia.

Born in Paris, Priscillia went from studying a Modern Languages Bachelors’ degree at Nanterre University where she specialised in English, Spanish and Russian to a Journalism degree, which is, as she often says, “ the best decision I have ever made so far”. Her initial passion for radio led her to work for two national radio stations such as RTL or Chérie FM and Connexion.FM, a London-based radio station, where she developed her reporting skills daily alongside professionals. She soon understood the importance of improving her Journalism skills in English and the opportunities that could arise from it in her future career as a reporter, which is why she chose to come to Newcastle last September to undertake an International Multimedia Journalism Masters’ degree at Newcastle University.

Always keen to discover new cultures, Priscillia is a globetrotter. She visited countries such as Kazakhstan, Morocco or Slovakia, where she discovered her passion for travel journalism.

Priscillia is eager to make this project an inspiration for journalists to report on immigration and integration. “I first learned about JET when I was preparing a report about International Women’s Day. I discovered the wonderful work the charity does to help migrant women to integrate themselves into the British society and I immediately knew I wanted to develop this idea into a wider project”.

Priscillia added her contribution to Breaking Barriers by coordinating the organisation of meetings and reports with JET members, interviewing participants, but also took this opportunity to develop skills such as filming, editing and photographing while participating in designing the website with her teammates and updating the project’s advances on social media.

Ultimate Career Aspiration: Travel and food journalist for Time Out Magazine or foreign correspondent.

Favourite TV Show: Friends (A classic never out of style that I could watch every day)

Most inspiring woman: Malala Yousafzai (Not only she is just sixteen years old, but her courage over her attackers and her current work to promote girls’ right to education in her country and all over the world is incredible)

The next country I would like to visit: Trick question, there are too many! But after moving in with roommates from Indonesia and Thailand when I came to Newcastle, I am quite keen to fly to Southeast Asia to discover their universe!
