Indonesian Festival

"A taste of Indonesia in the heart of Newcastle"

What is A Night in Indonesia? The Event.

'A Night in Indonesia' was a part of a weeklong celebration of Indonesian culture in Newcastle. The main event took place on Saturday 10th May, after earlier celebrations had taken place, including introducing students to Indonesian clothing, arts & crafts, workshops, culture and cuisine at Newcastle University earlier that week (7th and 8th May). The week itself on campus was a success, with many students coming down to try on costumes and take in the culture, with even Breaking Barriers trying on some traditional dress.

On Saturday 10th May, Breaking Barriers went to the festival where photographs of the week's events were displayed, traditional music and dance were played to the audience, which used authentic Indonesian instruments, which added a lovely atmosphere to the evening. The evening was dedicated to showcasing miscellaneous cultural performances from a number of Indonesia's wonderful islands.

The entire week was organised by the Indonesian Students Association at Newcastle (also known as PPI Newcastle); which is a group who collectively brings together all those who originate from Indonesia, but live in Newcastle - as a way of integration. NUSU Integration and Northumbria University helped support this set of events.
